Challenge: Lost traffic and revenue due to incorrect directory data
In early 2016, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare had a pressing need to fix their local search listings. Inaccurate listing data was causing massive issues, resulting in poor visibility in local search and lost business for their physician offices.
So, when Sean Pomory took over the role of Digital Media Specialist at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, making sure that listing data was up-to-date and accurate was one of his top priorities.
“Three years ago, our local listings weren’t being managed at all. This was causing massive issues with all of our locations and medical practices. Some of our listings were pointing to competitor listings, and they were seeing our patients!” he says, “Manually managing listings but keeping track of duplicates rapidly became too much to handle on my own. I needed a solution that would help me save time so I could focus on other things."
After manually fixing a few hundred local listings, Sean knew that the task was too big for one person, and taking up too much time—time he needed to be spending elsewhere.

“I’m the only person managing our six websites—including website security and SEO. I needed a solution that would help me save time so I could focus on content development and planning.”

Moz Local integrated with our [Google My Business] dashboard and I was able to use it to quickly fix local search results by addressing incorrect data across the web,” Sean says, “The tool addresses the underlying issues of local search and doesn’t simply mask the problem. I also appreciate that the tool feels like an extension of my work in that I can track and be actively involved in the process.”

Sean used to spend 15 hours or more each month manually correcting local listings. Now, Moz Local does all the heavy lifting, which leaves Sean free to focus on managing Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s digital assets.
“Now, I take 10 minutes each week to monitor duplicate listings and address any incorrect data. Moz Local has drastically shortened the amount of time I spend on that, which allows me to focus my attention on maintaining our websites,” he says.

Over the past three years, Sean has been able to use Moz Local to improve the accuracy of local listings by 171%.
“Our citation accuracy is crazy high now. As a result, our rankings from a local pack have gone up exponentially and people can find us more easily in local search,” he says.
This has had a dramatic impact on business for Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s primary medical center and their physician offices.
“Our Google My Business traffic has increased dramatically. All of our practice managers have noticed an increase in calls to the office and appointments scheduled. Moz Local is the perfect solution for us,” Sean says. “Before we started this partnership with Moz, we were averaging about 30,000 views each month from local search. Now, it’s well over 200,000.”
Moz Local has also had a big impact on how Sean is able to divide his time. Without it, he wouldn’t have time to develop new content or launch Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s new website.

When I look at how much time I used to spend doing that and manually addressing listings, we’re looking at cost savings of about $16,000 a year,” he says.
